Watkins Glen New York

Watkins Glen, the county seat for Schuyler County, New York, had a population of 1,859 as of the 2010 census. The village is best known for it's gorgeous state park and it's auto racing history.

Watkins Glen State Park, at the southern tip of Seneca Lake, is the most famous of the Finger Lakes State Parks because of it's beautiful waterfalls and breathtaking scenery. Within 2 miles the Watkins Glen stream decends 400 feet past 200 ft. cliffs rimmed with trails overlooking the gorge. Visitors enjoy camping, fishing, and scheduled summer tours through the gorge.

Watkins Glen is home to Watkins Glen International, one of the premier auto road racing tracks in the United States. The first Watkins Glen Sports Car Grand Prix was held in 1948 on public streets in and near the village.The original course ran for 6.6 miles and passed through the center of the village. The streets used for the original course remain intact today and a checkered flag marks the original start-finish line on the village's main street.
