Penn Yan New York

Penn Yan, the county seat of Yates County, New York, lies at the north end of the east branch of Keuka Lake, one of the Finger Lakes. Penn Yan's population was 5,159 at the 2010 census.

The name "Penn Yan" is said to have been contrived from the first syllables of " Pennsylvania " and " Yankee," as most of the early settlers were Pennsylvanians and New Englanders. Beginning in the early 70's, many Mennonite and Amish families moved to Yates County from Lancaster County, PA, seeking cheaper farmland.

Today Penn Yan is surrounded by wineries and farmland. Visitors from all over the country come to the Finger Lakes Region to enjoy the lakes, wines, and spectacular scenery. Penn Yan is truly a beautiful place to live and play.
