The Holiday Train- one of many fun, free holiday events in the areaWhether you’re new to the area or have been here your whole life, there is a lot of fun to be had in the Twin Tiers and Finger lakes regions during the holiday season. Here are some popular events that are sure to become a tradition for your family.

Roberson Museum’s Annual Home for the Holidays- Binghamton, NY

Now through January 5, 2014

Monday – Wednesday from 11am – 5pm, Thursday – Saturday from 11am – 9pm, Sunday from 11am – 5pm

Admission: Members: free, adults: $8.00, students and seniors: $6.00, kids 4 and under: free

Enjoy the historic Roberson Mansion decked out for the holidays as well as the “international forest” highlighting holiday traditions from around the world. Admission also includes access to the museum where you can view the many exhibits and model train.

Hometown Holiday Weekend-Greene, NY

Starting Friday, December 6 at 6pm- Sunday, December 8

Highlights include Bowling with Santa, tree lighting, horse and wagon rides, snowflake art and caroling. Enjoy shopping, dining and plenty of holiday events and activities throughout the weekend in this historic small town.

20th Anniversary Dickens Christmas in Skaneateles- Skaneateles, NY

Every Saturday and Sunday until Christmas and also December 24th, noon to 4pm

Join in the festivities as the whole town is transformed into a Victorian village complete with a cast of over 50 characters acting out scenes from the Christmas classic A Christmas Carol. Enjoy live caroling, horse drawn carriage rides, fire-roasted chestnuts and unique shops and restaurants.

Canadian Pacific Holiday Train-Various train stations in NY and PA

Watch as the brightly decorated holiday train pulls into a rail yard near you to entertain with live holiday music and collect food donations to benefit the local community. Each Holiday Train consists of 14 railcars adorned with thousands of lights, including a modified boxcar that has been turned into a traveling stage for performers to put on a 30 minute show. This free event is fun for the whole family. Check the schedule to see when the train will be jingling through your town!

37th Annual Hammondsport Christmas in the Park-Hammondsport, NY

Saturday, December 14 from 4pm-8pm, Village Square

Bring your family for free horse-drawn wagon rides, music, food and vendors. Even Santa and Mrs. Claus will be there around 6pm with some of their reindeer! Enjoy the sights and sounds of the season at this old fashioned Finger lakes holiday event.

Christmas in Montrose-Montrose, Pennsylvania

Revel in the delights of the season during this three day holiday event in downtown Montrose.
